Austin Concrete Countertops Compared to Granite Countertops

Although concrete countertops and granite countertops can look very similar, they are two very different materials. Granite has been used for countertops and tabletops for a long time. Although it can be very beautiful, concrete has so many more possibilities.

Concrete can be much more personal. When you go into any kind of shop that sells granite countertops, you are limited by the kinds of stones that they have in stock. With concrete, on the other hand, you are only limited to your imagination and the Austin concrete artisan's ability to manipulate the material. The possibilities are endless.

With concrete countertops and tabletops, you are not limited to which colors you can use, as you are limited with granite. You can use the color-wheel as your reference, not just what is naturally quarried. You can use thousands of colors, which you can't find in any natural stone.

You can also uses stains. Concrete stains are different than colors. Think of a piece of wood that is stained as opposed to painted. It gives you a bit of a mottled look, that can make the texture much "warmer."

The large selection of colors, textures and sizes can make it a little difficult to choose between all the possibilities. It's not like your selection is limited to, say, thirty colors, and it comes in a few specific thicknesses, and only certain shapes.

A good concrete countertop artisan can offer you may choices, and be part of the creative process with you. The material itself has a beautiful look, and it's very tactile. When you see well-made concrete furniture you will almost certainly want to run your hand over it. That's probably because concrete isn't expected to be as smooth and "warm" and almost soft, as it is.

The juxtaposition of added features, such as trivets made out of different materials can make the tactile appeal of your concrete countertop even more extreme.

Decorative concrete furniture can be made to match the existing furniture in the home. Some has even been made to match existing cabinetry. For example, some trivets have been made out of the same kind of glass that is in the existing cabinetry doors for a beautiful and intriguing effect.

Another advantage of using concrete is that you can add almost any kind of material to the surface texture for variety. A nice touch is to use recycled materials, like recycled glass or tile. Even hardware like nuts and bolts can be re-used.

For stability, versatility and creativity, you really can't beat concrete for countertops.
